Welcome to Term 3 2025 - The Art Principles

In this 8-week course, students will develop and further understand the creative process and progress their art technique in a fun and supportive environment.

We will start the Term with CONTRAST and how contrast is created in artworks by using dissimilar elements or materials and will create a contrast piece in acrylic and collage. 

 
In week 2, it will be a foray into REPETITION & PATTERN that create formal patterns and informal patterns. We will look at artists like Warhol and Klimt and create a mixed media patterned tree.  

 
Next, it’s all about MOVEMENT & RHYTHM where art elements are used to create a sense of movement and rhythm in pieces. Here we will look at Hirschfield Mach and current Australian contemporary artist Iidiko Kovacs and will attempt to create a Kovacs inspired piece in acrylics. 

 
Then we move into BALANCE and creating a sense of centeredness or indeed imbalance, depending on the artist's narrative. We will look at symmetry with oil pastels, watercolour and mixed media. Week 5 will see us look at EMPHASIS where the artist draws the attention of the viewer to an important area in the artwork. We will explore abstraction (using patterns) and stencil making with gesso.  
 
And finally, UNITY, where the artist creates harmony using the elements and principles to complete the vision of their piece. In this final week, we will create abstract mixed media pieces using a variety of materials, including gold leaf, before we head into the last 2 weeks of mini masterpieces and body of work time.  

The first 6 weeks are spent learning various techniques while in the last few weeks, you develop your own Art Principles inspired mini Body of Work masterpiece based on the choice of techniques we looked at and developed over the course of the term!! 

All Students are provided with;

• A Visual Arts Diary for their workings and drawing excercises throughout the Term
• An Apron in class for their Art activities
• A mini Fine Art Lesson each week relevant to a particular artist or style for the Term
• All Art Materials required for each weeks diverse activity
• Their own piece of Art, created in class each week, to take home!
• All the materials required to complete a Masterpiece of their choice at the end of Term  
• A light snack of coffee, tea & biscuits
• 8 Weeks of Creativity and Fun in a nurturing environment!

Class Fees are pro rata throughout the term so you can join in at anytime!
