Welcome to Term 4 2025 – Australian Contemporary Art
In this 8-week course, students will develop and further understand the creative process and progress their art technique in a fun and supportive environment.
We will start the Term with a look at INDIGENOUS artist Zaachariaha Fielding and his story telling through symbols and songs. We will examine his contemporary art practice, his bold use of colour and create our own stories, symbols and words to create meaning using acrylics and mixed media.
In week 2, it will be a foray into STILL LIFE looking at the HSC Art Express works of Rinya Bokana titled “Candy Coloured Memories” and will focus on drawing in coloured pencils, crayons and textas.
Next, it’s all about ABSTRACTION where art elements such as colour and texture work together to create magic. Here we will look at Sulman Finalist Gemma Smith to create a work inspired by the use of recycled fabrics and paint.
Then we move into FIGURTATIVE ART and will work with sculpture to create unique looming figures inspired by the Francis Upritchard sculptures at the entrance to the Naala Badu building of the Art Gallery of NSW.
Week 5 will see us look at the SYDNEY CONTEMPORARY and artist Ramesh Mario Nirthiyendran where we will create relief style portraits in mixed media of our alter egos and or superheroes.
And finally, we will look at INCLUSIVE ART, where artists with disabilities find their voice through art making. In this final week, we will create two to three A5 size artworks of the same subject matter in different media inspired by the Incognito Artshow, which raises funds for art studios like Studio A.
The final two weeks are spent applying all of the term’s learnings into our own mini masterpieces and body of work time; just like a real life artist!
